Julianna Dalton chosen as Volleyball Player of Year

Posted

Julianna Dalton’s performance in the girls state volleyball finals at the Denver Coliseum cemented the selection of the Chaparral standout as the 2019 Colorado Community Media Volleyball Player of the Year.

Dalton was dominant in the 3-1 state title win over Valor Christian on Nov. 16.

“Julianna is the most well-rounded player in the state,” said Chaparral coach Amanda West. “Teams base their scouting report around her, yet she consistently achieves the top in all categories in the state: attacking percentage, digs, aces, and blocks. Other coaches are extremely impressed with her attacking and blocking, but at 6-5, they are blown away with her serving, digging and passing.

“Julianna goes wherever the team needs her based on our scouting report of the other team. She will be a middle if the other middle is a primary, or a right side if the other team has a great outside. Not only is Julianna athletic, but her leadership skills are incredible both on and off the court. She is a team captain and leads our team physically, mentally, and emotionally, pushing each member of the team to become better players. Her ability to manage and harness the team dynamics makes everyone around her better.”

For the season, Dalton had 288 kills and a 45.2 percentage, a .316 kills percentage, 51 service aces, 51 blocks, 244 digs and 547 assists.

“I’ve been watching Chaparral Volleyball since I was 5 and this season is everything I ever wanted,” said Dalton. “This group of girls is really something special and from the moment we started practicing I knew we all wanted to achieve the same goal. It feels truly amazing to win it with this group and for our school.”
