Residents of Castle Rock gathered in the days before Christmas to celebrate the holiday at a festival boasting bonfires for s'more making, live reindeer and Santa visits. The 2018 Reindeer Games took place at Philip S. Miller Park on Dec. 14 spanning across grounds near the Millhouse.
Live reindeer named Cupid and Comet entertained children — including some who climbed the fence for a better look — and their parents. On the amphitheater steps, staff from the parks and recreation department dressed as elves and led children through an obstacle course. Inside the Millhouse, Santa listened to Christmas wishes from a long line of boys and girls.
Josh Epstein attended with his wife and children, who had participated the year before. After his 5-year-old son, Miles, spoke with Santa, Epstein's wife, Autumn, said it was their best Santa experience.
“They wanted to come again this year,” he said. “It's really, really cool.”
