Castle Rock game hits Walmart shelves

Fans of Monopoly can now play a localized version of the popular board game. Castle Rock-Opoly, released in April, mirrors the well-known game of Monopoly but features local fixtures in the Castle Rock community.

Players can purchase properties ranging from the Castle Café to town hall to Rock Park. Rather than being sent to jail, as in Monopoly, they can get stuck in a “traffic jam” or pass “I love Castle Rock.”

Castle Rock-Opoly will be available at the Castle Rock Walmart, 133 Sam Walton Lane. A spokeswoman for Walmart said Aug. 13 the game quickly sold out after its release and the store plans to restock, although she was not sure when that would be.

The game is created in Cincinnati by Late for the Sky Production Company, which has no affiliation with the maker of Monopoly, according to a news release.

The Owner of Late for the Sky, Bill Schulte, said the company looks for communities that are well-liked by residents and have researched a number of Colorado communities for future game development.
