The joyous yet unorthodox celebrations where Cherry Creek School District graduates cruised through car parades in their caps and gowns this spring won’t be the final page in the students’ senior year: The district announced it will hold graduation ceremonies at the end of July.

The school district “is pleased to announce that, through our work with the Tri-County Health Department, we have developed an updated plan for graduation ceremonies that will allow each graduate to bring two guests,” the district announced June 30 on its website.

The ceremonies still will be livestreamed so additional family members and friends can watch online.

Most will take place at the Stutler Bowl stadium at Cherry Creek High School. Everyone in attendance is expected to wear a mask or face covering and respect physical distancing guidelines, the district’s website said.

The ceremonies won’t include handshakes or handing out diplomas, according to Abbe Smith, district spokeswoman. Graduates will have their name called and will walk onto the field to be recognized, Smith added.

More details about the ceremonies will go directly to families from schools, the site said.

Ceremonies for the district’s six traditional high schools will be held at 8 a.m. at the Stutler Bowl as follows:

• Grandview, July 27

• Smoky Hill, July 28

• Overland, July 29

• Cherry Creek, July 30

• Eaglecrest, July 31

• Cherokee Trail, Aug. 1

The ceremony for Endeavor Academy will be held at the Stutler Bowl, and the ceremony for Cherry Creek Elevation will be held at the Fremont Learning Center at 14603 E. Fremont Ave. — near East Arapahoe and South Jordan roads — as follows:

• Cherry Creek Elevation, noon July 27

• Endeavor Academy, 11 a.m. July 28

Endeavor is the district’s alternative education high school, which offers a more individualized approach and smaller classes than traditional schools. Cherry Creek Elevation is the district’s online school.

“We are thrilled that we are able to mark the milestone of graduation and celebrate the accomplishments of the class of 2020 in this significant way, while also protecting the health of our graduates, their families, our staff and our community,” the district’s site said.
