While the Colorado Renaissance Festival has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Douglas County residents still have the option of attending another popular summer event: the county fair and rodeo.

The annual Renaissance Festival, held in Larkspur, was canceled July 15 after already being postponed earlier in the summer.

“We have been hopeful that circumstances would improve so that we could operate safely,” according to the release announcing the cancellation. “However, due to guidelines and restrictions... and for the safety of all involved and the community, we feel this is in the best interest of everyone.”

The festival plans to return in 2021 with an event date of June 12 through August 1.

The Douglas County Fair and Rodeo, however, is still scheduled to take place July 30 through August 2, as of press time.

While many of the fair’s traditional public events are canceled, there will still be a Junior Livestock Sale. That part of the event will be limited to 175 people and will have an option to participate online.

Limited tickets and online viewing options are also available for the rodeo events, such as bull riding and a show from the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.

The event was authorized under Douglas County’s variance for large gatherings and event venues, approved June 26, according to a release from the county.
