Arapahoe Community College gallery goes vividly virtual

Posted

Arapahoe Community College’s Colorado Gallery of the Arts will be virtual-only until at least January 2021. By going online to www.arapahoe.edu/campus-community/art-galleries, one can follow the prompts to various virtual galleries, including the annual ACC Art Instructor Show, which is said to last until January. Ceramics instructor Bob Smith, known for his expertise as an artist as well as for a particular skill in firing techniques, displays the “Saggar-fired Vase # 1” as well as several other lovely pieces. Works are for sale. Contact Gallery Director Trish Sangelo: trish.sangelo@arapahoe.edu. When I looked on Sept. 1, the Kaleidoscope exhibit was also available, though past termination date. It’s worth a look if still there! Also look for Across the Globe, and exhibit of works by Study Abroad students. Student work is displayed at Littleton Adventist Hospital.

Spark Gallery

“Brought to Light,” an invitational exhibit with works by more than 20 Denver area artists, will be open through Oct. 25 at Spark Gallery, 900 Santa Fe Drive, Denver. Gallery hours: noon to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Buntport Theater

Our favorite, Buntport Theater, is proposing a “Buntport Bored Post Society Society” to be developed with the usual joyful silliness we have come to expect. Limited membership. Details are in the works. Fans may want to check on progress at buntport.com. We will hope to report further. Buntport’s outdoor “Grasshoppers” performances sold out during the summer, and might be repeated — we hope.

‘Almost Heaven’

Town Hall Arts Center in Littleton will present its postponed spring production, “Almost Heaven: The Songs of John Denver,” from Sept. 11 through Oct. 11 at the Rose Garden at Hudson Gardens, 6115 S. Santa Fe Drive, Littleton. Ticket prices: $47, $52. Bring blanket or lawn chair or use a Hudson Gardens chair. Capacity is limited and groups will be spaced on the lawn. Parking is free and in case of inclement weather, a 30-minute hold may be in place. If canceled, refund or exchange. See the Town Hall website at townhallartscenter.org and/or call the box office, 303-794-2787, ext. 5 for tickets. (Open Monday-Friday, 10-3.) Purchase in advance. Remainder of season not yet announced, but this is good news. Hudson Gardens hosted a Town Hall play soon after it opened — in a tent.

Museum powwow

Each fall, the Denver Art Museum hosts a free “Friendship Powwow” on its plaza, with Native American dancers, crafts and food. We are told that event will be virtual this year. Bits from previous events?? Go to denverartmuseum.org, Sept. 12, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Doors Open Denver

The Annual Doors Open Denver, offered by the Denver Architecture Foundation, will also go the virtual route, offering an inside look at 12 sites on Sept. 21-22. Tickets: $7, member/$9, non-member. Visit denverarchitecture.org.

KUVO jazz

KUVO radio at 89.3 FM will celebrate a 35th anniversary and 15 years of its “Live at the Vineyards” celebrations at Balistreri Vineyards with 15 days of radio show, which began Sept. 9 and runs to Sept. 23. Individual artists or bands that were celebrated will be featured. Tune in!

Castle Rock ArtFest

Local watercolor artist Cindy Welch will be a featured artist at the 31st Annual Castle Rock ArtFest. The Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce is hosting the juried fine arts show Sept. 12-13 in downtown Castle Rock and Festival Park. See www.castlerock.org/signature-events for details.
