The biggest annual fundraiser for Castle Rock area Rotary clubs has been rescheduled for August after organizers called off the event — first scheduled for June — amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 24th Annual Rotary Ducky Derby will take place Aug. 23 alongside the farmers market in Festival Park, 300 Second St. The event will kick off at 8 a.m. as the farmers market opens booths for business and Rotary Club members run activities for children.

Those activities will include face painting, a bouncy house and carnival games. Club members will also sell tickets to the Ducky Derby.

At 1 p.m., Rotary members will launch roughly 10,000 rubber ducks into East Plum Creek, sending the ducks off on a race toward the finish line. The first few ducks to the finish win cash prizes for ticketholders whose ticket number matches numbers on the ducks.

The Rotary clubs hold the event each year as a fundraiser for local charities. This year proceeds will be primarily be distributed to local nonprofit Wellspring Communities, which serves adults with special needs.
