Rock Canyon senior Nick Fallin examined his round and figured he could have played better.

Fallin, however, took medalist honors with an even-par 72 on Sept. 15 at the Spring Valley Golf Club in the final Continental League boys golf tournament of the season.

He helped the Jaguars win their first league title with a total team score of 1,686 through seven league tournaments with Castle View coming in second at 1,703.

Fallin, who started on the 18th hole in the shotgun start, had three birdies to go along with three bogeys and wound up a stroke ahead of Castle View's Luke Cushman, Johnny Williams of Ponderosa and Legend's Logan Douglass, who each had 1-over-par scores of 73.

“I thought I played pretty good,” said Fallin. “I didn't take advantage of the par 5s as well as I wanted. I played well on the rest of the course. I hit the ball well and make a couple putts. It wasn't as great as I wanted to play but I was obviously happy,

“I kind of just kept it together the whole round. Through the middle part of the round I was 1-under through 14 holes and at that point I was pretty locked in.”

Fallin was 1-over-par on the three par-5 holes and a bogey on the 531-yard, par-5 16th hole put him at 1-over-par, but he birdied the par-3 17th hole to finish his round at even-par.

“You just have to have confidence in your game that even if you have a bad hole you are just going to be able to get in back the next hole,” said Fallin.

“I thought it was a pretty good season. We won the league title. I was pretty happy with how I did during the season. Obviously you can always do better but I had a solid year and it was a good way to finish my senior year with a win.”

Fallin had support from his teammates as Rock Canyon nailed down the league championship. Logan Douglass had a high school career best 73, Nathan Kim came in with a 74 and Blake Sullivan fired a 79 for the 298 team score, seven strokes lower than Legend, which came in second in the league finale.

In the Jefferson County League 5A tournament at West Woods on Sept. 14, Lakewood's Max Lange carded a 5-under-par 67 with teammate Ryan Liao shooting a 68. Jack Armstrong of Valor Christian tied for sixth with a par-72.

Ralston Valley won the conference title while Valor Christian was fourth.

Arapahoe's Matthew Wilkinson tied for medalist honors with a 1-under-par 71 on Sept. 16 at Murphy Creek Golf Club in the Centennial League's regular-season ending tournament.

The league champion Warriors, helped by Jack Rottschafer's 73 which tied for third and a 76 from defending state champion Will Kates, won the team title at Murphy Creek with a score of 297 with Cherry Creek placing second at 304.

Lutheran's Jackson Lowe was the leading Lions golfer with an 83 at the Class 3A Metro League tournament at the Broadlands. Lutheran was fourth in the team tourney standings.

The fields are set for Class 5A regional tournaments.

Arapahoe, Heritage and Douglas County will be in the Class 5A Southern regional, which was set for Sept. 24 at South Suburban golf course. The Central regional was held Sept. 23 at Overland golf course with Valor, Mountain Vista and Regis Jesuit entered. Rock Canyon, Highlands Ranch, ThunderRidge and Jeffco champ Ralston Valley played Sept. 21 in the 5A Western regional at Raccoon Creek while Legend and Chaparral competed on Sept. 21 in the Northern regional at Hyland Hills.

The 5A state tournament is set for Oct. 5-6 at Rolling Hills Country Club.
