Top executives with major institutions, the superintendents for big school districts, often seem out of reach, surrounded as they are by an army of staffers. While they might not be directly elected, they serve at the whims of school board members who are. That's likely why talking to most superintendents can often feel a lot like speaking to a politician, with their every word carefully weighed and measured for political correctness. 

That's one of the reasons I was excited to get Jefferson County Schools Superintendent Jason Glass out of the office and boardroom setting I'd always seen him, and into some less certain terrain. Plus, it's just fun to hit a good trail with some company. 

Glass was a good enough sport to say yes. And I've got to say, the guy can crank out some serious miles.
