Douglas County Republican politicians should take a page out of Grand County’s COVID-19 play book and stop whining about Governor Polis and his efforts to keep Colorado safe. Entering Grand County at the top of Berthoud pass, are two flashing signs: One says Campfires are banned and the other says Please wear a mask. Winter Park and Fraser have made masks mandatory and Grand Lake’s mandatory mask order went into effect July 20.
Grand County is not a hotbed of bleeding-heart liberals, but a bastion of old-time Republicans like Bob Dole and Ronald Regan. It is politically solid red. As of July 27 the county had 37 confirmed COVID-19 cases and one suspected death. As a longtime part-time resident of Grand Lake, I would like to do my part in keeping the county safe. I would start by altering the sign at the top of the pass by adding the word DAMN to it.
