Local breweries are among the winners of 2021 Great American Beer Festival awards.

The Boulder-based Brewers Association presented gold, silver and bronze medals in 97 categories Sept. 10 as part of the Craft Brewers Conference in Denver. The prizes usually are presented in conjunction with the annual Great American Beer Festival, which each year draws huge crowds of beer lovers to the Colorado Convention Center, but that event was canceled for the second year in a row because of COVID-19 safety concerns.

Judges sampled 9,680 entries from about 2,200 breweries. Colorado beermakers won 21 medals, Ed Sealover of the Denver Business Journal reports.

Among breweries located in areas served by Colorado Community Media newspapers:

► Cannonball Creek Brewing Co. of Golden won a gold medal in the category of Experimental India Pale Ale for its Vladimir Brutin.

► Our Mutual Friend Brewing of Denver won two medals: Gold for Australian Pale Ale for its Inner Light, and silver for Mixed-Culture Brett Beer for its Biere Ovale.

► Ratio Beerworks of Denver took gold in the Golden or Blonde Ale categorty for its Domestica.

► Peak View Brewing Co. of Greenwood Village, adjacent to Centennial, was a first-time winner, taking a silver medal in the category of Fruit Wheat Beer for its Blood Orange Wheat.

► Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project of Denver took a silver medal in the Belgian-Style Sour Ale category for its Stay the Funk In.

► Strange Craft Beer Co. of Denver won silver in the category of Historical Beer for its Silverbrick Norwegian Farmhouse.

► Great Divide Brewing Co. of Denver won silver in the category of American Fruit Beer for its Wild Raspberry Ale.

► Lone Tree Brewing Co. of Lone Tree took bronze in the American Fruit Beer category for its Lone Tree Peach Pale Ale.

► Holidaily Brewing Co. of Golden won a bronze medal in the Gluten-Free Beer category for its Big Henry Hazy IPA.

► Amalgam Brewing of Denver took bronze in the category of Experimental Beer for its Skins.
