Lakewood Police are searching for a man and woman who are suspected of shooting and killing a dog.
According to a release from the department, police responded to calls of shots fired near the intersection of 12th and Teller on August 1. When officers arrived to the scene, they found a female pit bull mix who died of apparent gunshot wounds.
She had no tags and was not microchipped, according to Lakewood Police Department's Public Information Officer John Romero.
Witnesses at the scene told police they saw a man and woman who appeared to be arguing when they exited a silver Chrysler 300 near the intersection. After they exited the vehicle, the man struggled with the dog and held it down while the woman shot it, according to the release. The two immediately returned to the vehicle and fled the scene, the release says.
The woman is described as being white or Hispanic with blonde hair and was last seen wearing a black, long-sleeve shirt and blue jeans. The man is also described as being white or Hispanic with black or dark brown hair and was last seen wearing a black T-shirt and blue jeans with white shoes.
