About me

My wife, Amy, and two kiddos Emma, 15, and Kade, 14, and I live in Larkspur. I was recently given the opportunity to be the U.S. onshore environmental Director for Occidental Petroleum Corporation. Amy works part-time for the Douglas County School District as a preschool speech pathologist and has her own business where she does speech therapy for birth-to-preschool kids in their homes. Emma is a sophomore at Castle View High School and Kade is a freshman. Our kids are very active in sports, so we follow them around constantly cheering them on. Emma is currently playing softball for the Sabercats and Kade made the golf team at Castle View and is thoroughly enjoying it.  When we are not chasing our kids around, we are playing with our black Lab, Ryder. He is very busy and loves to fetch tennis balls.

Starting the softball booster club

The Castle View High School Softball Booster Club was officially formed this year as a non-profit organization to raise funds to give directly back to the softball program. We look to raise funds to get the girls new uniforms, field improvements, clubhouse and other necessary items for the girls to play softball. As the president, I have been working to get the booster club registered with the State of Colorado and IRS as a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Along with the other members of the board we host fundraisers to pay for the items above. The coach provides a budget to the club and the board votes to approve, deny or modify the budget. So far it has been a lot of work but to see the benefits makes it all worth it. Each of the board members have a student athlete on the team so we are very vested in the success of the club.

Honoring heroes

Since coach Dave Rodriguez came to the helm of the program, he has looked to pick one home game to honor community heroes. Last year each senior asked their favorite teacher to come be honored. This year we are recognizing first responders during our Community Night on Sept. 21 at 1:00 p.m. against Grand Junction. We will be honoring a Denver policeman, Castle Rock firefighter and two school resource officers. Each day these heroes put themselves in the line of fire to keep us safe. Honoring these heroes at the field is the least we can do for the sacrifice they give each and every day.

This year is extra special as the police officer and firefighter have daughters that play on the softball team. It will truly be a special afternoon!!!
