Littleton Police and federal agents are investigating after thieves made off with an unspecified number of guns from Triple J Armory in south Littleton in the early morning hours of June 30.

Thieves forced entry to the gun store and shooting range at 8152 SouthPark Lane a little after 5 a.m., according to a city news release, taking numerous rifles and handguns.

Littleton Police are working with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to investigate the burglary, according to the news release.

“We're at a loss of words to express how heartbroken (we are) with the damage caused to our facility and the theft,” read a statement posted to the company's Facebook page in part. “The lack of respect and compassion these young men have been taught in their lives proves we must parent our children very carefully.”

Reached via Facebook, Triple J co-owner J.D. Murphree said he was unable to release the number or type of weapons taken on the advice of investigators.

Murphree said that the store's security footage showed the perpetrators were young men, one of whom did not wear gloves and may have left behind fingerprints and DNA evidence.

Triple J has been the target of thieves before — the store endured two completed and one attempted smash-and-grab burglaries at its old location off County Line Road in 2016 and 2017, during a wave of similar burglaries across the Denver metro area.

No arrests had been made in the burglaries as of 2018, though some of the guns were later recovered from other crime scenes.

The store's new location drew controversy in 2018, after neighbors objected to the business being placed close to schools and homes. The family-owned business prevailed against a series of lawsuits over its permitting and parking in 2019.

Murphree said he anticipated reopening the store on July 1.

Addressing the thieves in the Facebook post, the business continued: “We will catch you, (and) you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

“We appreciate everyone's well wishes through these trying times,” the statement continued. “We will rebuild, repair and come back better.”
