The Parker Senior Center is hosting weekly drive-in concerts through Sept. 9

The weekly concert series held its first show July 29 with a performance from Terri Garcia and Bert Sims, in a tribute to Patsy Cline and Willie Nelson.

The concerts are open to senior center members only. Cars are spaced out with empty parking spaces between them. Each week will feature a different type of music, according to senior center officials.

Donna Foerester came up with the idea and with the help of Jan Dengal, the two started the first drive-in weekly concerts. Foerester borrowed the idea from the PACE Center, which has been holding regular drive-in concerts this summer as well.

The next concert scheduled is for Aug. 12, with Hank Galleogs and Terri Garcia.

The concerts are held each Wednesday. They begin at 7 p.m. and are scheduled to end at 8. The parking lot at the Parker Senior Center will be open for members only beginning at 6 p.m. There is no charge for the concert. Go online to www.parkerseniorcenter.org for information on making reservations.

“Depending on how things change, the thing is this is still vulnereable population, even as things sart to open up, it may not open up as much for them going forward,” Foerester said. “But...I definitely think it’s something that will continue.”
