Two suspects arrested after police car chase ends in Englewood

One man and one woman are in custody following a police chase pursuing a white sedan that ended in Englewood in the afternoon on Oct. 14, Lakewood police said.

Police officers from Lakewood, Denver and Englewood converged at the Kent Place apartments at East Hampden Avenue and South University Boulevard after chasing a car that briefly drove the wrong way along westbound lanes of Hampden in that area.  The apartments sit next to King Soopers and other businesses, where numerous onlookers watched the scene.

Lakewood police identified a white Lincoln sedan that was stolen during a carjacking in Lakewood on Oct. 12 that left two elderly women seriously injured when the alleged carjacker ran them over with their own car as he fled, Lakewood police said.

As police agents attempted a traffic stop at about 3 p.m. Oct. 14, the car's driver sped away, ultimately leading police on a chase through Lakewood, Denver and Englewood, a Lakewood police news release said.

The driver of the car stopped and fled on foot near the Kent Place apartments at about 3:10 p.m. Police blocked off an entrance to the Kent Place parking garage soon after.

One man and one woman, both in their 20s, were apprehended in the area of Kent Place apartments, according to Agent Paul Osckel, Lakewood police spokesman. Those suspects, who were both in the car, were ultimately arrested. Lakewood police were still investigating a second man who was identified by police at the scene, according to John Romero, another Lakewood police spokesman.

Both victims of the Oct. 12 carjacking remained hospitalized, Romero said at about 3 p.m. Oct. 15.

One suspect in the Oct. 12 carjacking was considered "armed and dangerous" at the time, according to Lakewood police, but no shots were fired during the Oct. 14 incident, according to Osckel. The suspects were not believed to be armed as of 4:30 p.m., according to Osckel.

No officers, citizens or suspects sustained injuries in the Oct. 14 incident, Osckel said. No car accidents occurred related to the car chase Oct. 14, he added.

No roads were closed in the area as of 4:30 p.m.
