South Suburban Parks and Recreation District has a Public Art Committee that has developed an Art-on-Loan Program, which exhibits large outdoor artworks by area sculptors for a year, giving artists considerable exposure for their works.
SSPRD has purchased some works over the years but this program also offers art for the many visitors to its facilities to enjoy. (Two additional works were recently installed at Hudson Gardens in Littleton for a year.)
At Goodson Recreation Center, 6315 S. University Blvd. in Centennial, see: “Dragon Fly” by Kyle Ocean, composed of mild steel; “Eye Love You” by Justin Deister, made of metal, wood and paint; and “Spiral” by Joseph “Gary” Manuel — formed with steel and plywood by the former cabinetmaker.
The sculptures are at the entrance and courtyard at Goodson and were selected through a competitive process. Sculptors receive an honorarium for the loan of their works and some have found a buyer.
