‘Apron Chronicles’ exhibit coming to end of journey

History Colorado at 1200 Broadway in Denver is a wonderful spot for family (or individual) visits on a winter — or actually, any — day. Exhibits take you back to the state’s years-ago history as well as slices of life today, or perhaps just yesterday. “Apron Chronicles,” which runs Jan. 23 to May 9 this year, is subtitled “A Patchwork of American Recollections” (prompted by aprons), and the traveling show is ending a 16-year journey across the nation. It includes photographs, personal narratives and of course, fabric examples. Open Monday-Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Members free, other admissions costs vary. 303-447-8679, historycolorado.org.

Book club

We learned of the House Museum Book Club. Join the Molly Brown House and the Center for Colorado Women’s History (Evans House) in a collaborative book club. Free, meets on a Sunday in the even-numbered months of 2021, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. See History Colorado (www.historycolorado.org/house-museum-book-club) for titles, starting Feb. 7 with “Sweet Freedom’s Plains” by Shirley Ann Wilson Moore.

Call for artists

The Denver Art Museum has put out a call for artists’ proposals for a large-scale mural for reopening of the reimagined Martin Building and Sie Welcome Center. It will tell a story of the Denver metro area’s vibrant art scene, be about 12 X 28 feet and welcome visitors ... Budgeted at $10,000 plus supplemental materials budget. Additional support for installation provided by the museum. Deadline is Feb. 12 at 11:59 p.m. Zoom session Jan. 27 at 5:30 p.m. See RFP on the DAM website, www.denverartmuseum.org.

Piano recital

Pianist David Korevaar will perform a solo recital at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 26 at University of Colorado’s Grusin Hall. The program is called “Variations Fantastiques,” a journey through keyboard music from the Italian Renaissance to the Harlem Renaissance, with works by Frescobaldi, C.P.E. Bach, Mozart, Clara and Robert Schumann and Margaret Bonds. It will be streamed live by cupresents.org. Pay as you can.

JCC interactive lecture

JCC Mizel Arts and Cultural Center at 350 S. Dahlia St., Denver, continues events with a social justice theme. Next: On March 24 at 7 p.m., African-American Jewish food historian and James Beard-winning author Michael Twitty will host an interactive lecture in advance of Passover about the shared narratives of diaspora and exodus between African-American and Jewish communities.

Opera competition

On March 20, the Denver Lyric Opera Guild will hold the 2021 final competition for young opera singers. Details on the live-streamed afternoon competition will be coming up on the guild’s website at www.denverlyricoperaguild.org/2021-competition.
