Each year, the Colorado Watercolor Society holds a statewide exhibit that brings out many fine paintings — very much worth an excursion to enjoy them. This year, it is displayed at the Foothills Art Center, 809 15th St. in Golden, and is there through July 12. “Lilies in Crystal” by Cindy Welch of Castle Rock won second place from juror Sterling Edwards, North Carolina, a nationally recognized watercolorist. Admission free. Hours vary — open daily except Tuesday. foothillsartcenter.org.

Sculptures at Hudson Gardens

Each year, South Suburban Parks and Recreation District carries on its Art-on-Loan program, which places new works in public spaces for a year. Hudson Gardens and Event Center, 6115 S. Santa Fe Drive, recently placed two new pieces on its grounds: “Trail 413,” by Kyle Ocean of Fort Collins, includes two large blue columns with topographical symbols on them, inspired by Colorado locations. “Forever Iris,” by Maureen Plomske of Englewood, is a bright magenta flower, crafted from recycled steel and pipe. These works will be on display until June 2021. Admission to the Gardens is free. These pieces join a permanent collection of sculpture at Hudson Gardens. hudsongardens.org.

Children’s books

Author Sonja Wendt, of Jefferson County has published two new children’s picture books, the first in a series: “Cultivating Compassion in Children,” written for 4- to 7-year-olds. “I Am Not a Weed” features Seymour and Serena Weed and a sunflower that was not a planned part of the garden. The second book, “Can Old Be Beautiful” involves a little girl and her grandma. Available through Amazon and Wendt’s website, sonjawendt.com.

Weekends on Main

Littleton’s Main Street, closed to automobile traffic on a recent Saturday evening, was packed with al fresco diners filling curb-to-curb tables and chairs, enjoying food from the various Main Street eateries. Charming scene — but be sure to make a reservation. Cross streets were open.
