When going out to grab a meal with a group of friends, finding a place that has something for everyone can sometimes be a tricky proposition. As such, diners in search of a new food oasis will want to check out the new Junction Food & Drink food hall, slated to open in early April.

“Our goal is to bring diverse food options and service to an area that has been underdeveloped,” said Neill Blackwood, general manager of Junction, which is located at 2000 S. Colorado Blvd. “There are a lot of national chain restaurants in the area, but something is still lacking.”

Junction’s 12,220-square-foot food hall will gather together 10 chef-driven food stalls (as well as the Denver-based Sonder Coffee and Tea and indoor/outdoor Junction Bar), with the aim of tapping into some of the most popular food trends on the local and national scene. It will also add about 125 jobs to the area.

“The locals really informed us about what kind of places should set-up here,” Blackwood explained. “We wanted people to not only have quality food, but authenticity. And the people we partnered with share that dream.”

Restaurants that will call Junction home include, Big Wave Taco Shop, Bird on a Wire Southern Chick’n, Ebisu Ramen and Sushi (run by Chef Soon Choi, former head chef at Sushi Den), Grind and Grill Burger, Lazo Empanadas, Mr. Miner’s Meat and Cheese, Paciugo Gelato (which already has a popular spot in Lakewood’s Belmar), Pete’s-A-Pie of Denver (providing New Haven-style pizza by the slice and whole), Shawarma Shack and Smok Barbeque.

“Any food hall is only as successful as the people who work there, and we have a great mix,” Blackwood said. “We wanted to be really versatile, so we have options for people who are doing gluten-free, Keto friendly, vegetarian and any other dietary restrictions.”

With its indoor and outdoor space, Junction will be able to comfortably seat up to 400 guests, and its location was carefully chosen at a major travel hub (hence its name). Located in the Colorado Center, Junction will be an option for University of Denver students and faculty, employees of the many office buildings in the area, light rail users and more.

“We want to be the kind of place people can visit multiple times a week,” Blackwood said. “Food halls are a segment of hospitality and restaurants that are seeing tremendous growth, so we’re looking to do more of these in Denver.”

Bear witness to the ‘War of the Flowers’

For its spring theatrical production, the Su Teatro Cultural and Performing Arts Center is bringing to the stage “War of the Flowers,” which retells the story of the Kitayama Carnation Strike -led by five Chicana women - in early 1969.

The show opens at the center, 721 Santa Fe Drive in Denver, on Thursday, March 12 and runs through Sunday, March 29. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Playing for a crowd, once more

If you missed last year’s production of “Once” at Golden’s Miners Alley Playhouse, you missed one of the year’s best theatrical experiences. Luckily, the cast will be back together at the Buffalo Rose, for one night only.

“Once in Concert,” begins at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17 at the Buffalo Rose, 1119 Washington Ave. The evening regathers the cast to perform music from the show and Irish folk favorites, as well as a performance by the Connoly Irish Dance Company. The Rose will also be offering a 3-course Irish meal that will be available for an additional $20.

This is guaranteed to be a special way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. For details and tickets, call 303-935-3044 or visit www.minersalley.com.

Clarke’s Concert of the Week - Third Eye Blind at Mission Ballroom

There’s a kind of unbridled catharsis that comes with singing along to some of your favorite songs at the top of your lungs, surrounded by people doing the same thing. That’s the exact vibe you’ll have at a Third Eye Blind show, especially if you came of age when their tunes were inescapable.

The group will be joined by Saves the Day when they take to the Mission Ballroom, 4242 Wynkoop St. in Denver, at 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 19.

Third Eye Blind released a good album in late 2019, but you know you’re going to yell along to classics like “Semi-Charmed Life,” which has to be one of the catchiest, darkest quasi-love songs to ever make it to the top 10, with lyrics like, “When I’m with you I feel like I could die/And that would be alright.”

Stock up on some throat lozenges for the next day and get tickets at www.axs.com.
