Balanchine’s choreography for “Serenade” at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House in Denver, set to Tchaikovsky’s “Serenade for Strings,” will open Colorado Ballet’s “Ballet Masterworks” program, which runs April 5-14. Director Gill Boggs has chosen “Carmina Burana,” as choreographed by Canadian Fernand Nault, for the balance of the program. The Evans Choir, performing with the Colorado Ballet Orchestra, will accompany the dancers as they add this work to the company’s repertoire. Spring at Town Hall

“The World Goes Round” brings a revue of the music we have inherited from the Kander-Ebb songbook (“Chicago,” “Cabaret” and more), opening March 29 and running through April 28 at Town Hall Arts Center, 2450 W. Opera singers compete

The final 2019 competition hosted by the Denver Lyric Opera Guild offers opera lovers a free seat to hear competitors sing from 1 to 5 p.m. on March 30 at Calvary Baptist Church, 6500 E. Girard Ave., Denver. (One can come and go during this time.) On that day, the guild will also be holding a Vintage Treasures Sale to raise funds for prizes awarded to the winners, which aids as they develop a career in opera. Awards will be made at the April 9 “Opera on Tuesday” Awards Luncheon at Pinehurst Country Club, 6255 W. Quincy Ave., Denver.

1930s Harlem jazz

“Trav’lin: The 1930 Harlem Musical” opens April 9 at the Arvada Center, 6901 Wadsworth Blvd., featuring music of Harlem Renaissance songwriter J.C. Johnson, and runs through April 28. Three quintessential love stories set in 1930s Harlem, with classical American jazz. Storytellers in Golden

Rocky Mountain Storytelling will hold a conference, public concert and Story Slam on April 12-14 at the American Mountaineering Center, 710 10th St., Golden. The Center for Colorado Women’s History, located in the Byers-Evans House, 1310 Bannock St., Denver, opens a new exhibit on March 30, spotlighting movements that highlight women’s involvement and where they drove the change. The exhibit will run through March 2020. Free admission to gallery.

Acrylics workshop

Painter Christa MacFarlane will hold a workshop from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 28 at First Presbyterian Church of Littleton about techniques she calls “Loose and Drippy and Brave and Intuitive.” The workshop, offered by Heritage Fine Arts Guild, is for all skill levels and runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Skills like scraping, dripping, stamping will be discussed.
