Arapahoe County's bomb squad retrieved a suspicious package from Englewood's Rotolo Park on Jan. 20, though police later said it was not an explosive device.

A woman walking her dog called police after seeing a man place a cylinder with tape on it near the north end of the playground at the park on Huron Street just south of Quincy Avenue at about 2:40 p.m. on Jan. 20, according to Englewood Police spokesperson Sgt. Tracy Jones.

A responding officer located the device and notified the county's bomb squad.

Englewood Police shut down Huron Street for about an hour while bomb squad personnel retrieved the package. Two ambulances were on scene, as was Englewood's SWAT vehicle, though Jones said that was only because the SWAT team had been training nearby anyway and stopped by to offer backup.

The park and surrounding area were reopened shortly before 5 p.m. The bomb squad took possession of the package and determined it was not an explosive device, Englewood Police said in a news release.

The incident was the second time in four days that the Arapahoe County bomb squad retrieved a device in Englewood.

A neighbor discovered a device that appeared to be a pipe bomb in a field adjacent to Colorado's Finest High School of Choice at Chenango Avenue and Acoma Street on Jan. 16, according to a news release from Englewood Public Schools.

That device was also later determined to be nonexplosive, Jones said, adding that it's too soon to say whether the incidents are related.
