The coin flips, the outstretched hands that act like a scale to weigh the options – good and bad – and the stress of making a really big decision as a senior in high school are done for Frederick basketball player Megan Majeres.

“I picked Hiram College (about 150 miles northeast of Columbus, Ohio) because when I went to visit, I just this feeling like I was meant to go there,” she said.

Majeres will sign her official letter of intent later.

“I was able to go on an official visit before I had to make my decision to Hiram,” Majeres said. “I really enjoyed the scenery and the campus. I really felt like I could see myself living there for four years.”

Hiram is a private, liberal arts college that started in 1850.

“I had a couple more schools in mind but none of them compared to Hiram College,” she said. “Distance from home had an impact on my decision, but it wasn’t a deal breaker for me. I am going to miss my family and friends a ton.”

The Golden Eagles won five of their first seven games and both of its starts in the class 4A/5A Longs Peak League. She’s averaging 5.5 points and just about two rebounds through the six games in which she’s played. Last year, Majeres averaged more than seven points an outing and a bit more than two rebounds per contest.

Majeres hasn’t decided on a major.

“My dream job is to work with prosthetics and one day work with the Paralympics,” Majeres said. “I’m also interested in forensic science and psychology. I do have all the emotions possible for what’s to come. But I have a great support system and a loving family who has my back.”
