Cherry Creek’s Matt Batmunkh won the No. 2 singles match against Valor Christian’s Drew Schell at the 5A boys tennis state tournament at Gates Tennis Center in Denver Oct. 16, winning 6-2, 6-2.
The Creek team pulled away from Valor at the tournament to claim the team championship, which was the 44th state boys tennis crown in school history for the Bruins.
Greenwood Village’s Creek, which was tied with Highlands Ranch’s Valor heading into the Oct. 16 finals, had 85 points compared to 79 for the Eagles.
