The Spring Denver Home Show will be filled with fresh ideas when it opens March 22-24 at the National Western Complex, 4655 Humboldt St., Denver. Included will be demonstrations of Ikebana, Japanese flower arrangements, by members of the Sogetsu, a large school of Ikebana, founded in Japan in 1927, with a more contemporary philosophy than some others. Also featured: a Small Space and Sustainable Living Hall and garden ideas. Open March 22-23 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; March 24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Single-day tickets: $11 at the door or $9 online; Seniors $5.50; under 12 free. homeshowdenver.com.

Children write

The Annual Littleton Friends of the Library and Museum Children’s Creative Writing Contest is open for children ages first through eighth grade who attend a school, or live within the boundaries, of Littleton Public Schools. There are two categories: short story (fiction, 2500 words maximum) and poetry (any length, all forms). Entries due at Bemis Library or by emailing FriendsLibraryMuseum@gmail.com by 5 p.m. April 6. Author’s name only should appear on entry form and should be the work of an individual. Label each work with title and page number only. Anonymous judging. Awards announced week of April 22.

The public is invited to a “community conversation” with former Colorado first lady Helen Thorpe about her book, “The Newcomers: Finding Refuge, Friendship and Hope in an American Classroom,” at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 9300 E. Free Community Dinner

`BeeHive’ musical

‘The Little Prince’
