Richard Lee Arellano, 29, along with Gwendolyn Gallegos, 57, were reported to Lakewood Police for shoplifting from the 7455 W. Colfax Ave Walmart by employees, according to Lakewood Police Public Information Officer John Romero. The employee said a man and woman were leaving with hundreds of dollars of merchandise, and the man pointed a gun at them before leaving on foot.
Police found Arellano soon after, but he fled on foot. While in pursuit, Arellano fired multiple times at a Lakewood detective and agent, said Romero, before he escaped into the local neighborhood.
West Metro SWAT responded and completed a yard-to-yard search, apprehending Arellano.
According to Romero, Arellano is being held at the Jefferson County jail on two counts of Attempted 1st Degree Murder of a Police Officer, Aggravated Robbery and Felony Menacing. Gallegos was identified later and cited for theft.
