Facility will house 120 dogs for pet owners

K9 Resorts, the self-proclaimed “Ritz Carlton” of dog hotels, is set to open in Lone Tree this August, allowing pets to have luxurious stays while their owners are on vacation.

The location at 7475 Park Meadows Drive, Lone Tree, was a Country Buffet until it sat vacant for five years. K9 Resorts purchased the building last June and received zoning approval in January. The company is renovating the old building and restructuring the outdoor space.

Owner Scott Kolble discussed the remodeling and how the building will be transformed with chandeliers down the whole hall and crown molding to give the space an elegant feel.

The facility will be able to house 120 dogs among four levels of boarding — traditional standard, traditional double, executive rooms and luxury suites. Prices range from $54 to $84, but if a family has two dogs in their household, and they stay in the same suite, the second dog is 50% off.

“Our executive suites are kind of the bread and butter of our business, and it’s these individual soundproof rooms that each dog will get, so they’ll get their own little suite that’s about six feet by four feet,” Kolble said.

The hotel will have a space for a dog wash area and grooming station, so that the dogs are always sent home cleaner than they arrived.

Dogs will be separated by size during their stay at K9 Resorts. The facility features an indoor room for smaller dogs as well as a room for bigger dogs with separate outdoors spaces for each group. The outdoor play areas will span 4,000 feet to give the dogs plenty of room to run around.

There is also a turf area for “dog timeout” for misbehaving dogs. “If they keep getting into fights with their friends, then we’re able to take them over here and still have a pet technician to play with them and make sure they’re not left out,” Kolble said.

The dogs’ health and safety is a top priority for the business. They use Microban flooring along the entire space, which helps fight bacteria and diseases.

Kolble said, “We also have a hospital grade HVAC system on the roof with a special item called PetAirapy. It’s a UV unit that installs in there and will eliminate any chance of outbreaks.”

The facility is also closely surveilled to make sure the dogs receive the care they need.

“We’re gonna have cameras throughout the facility, so that we can constantly monitor it,” said Kolble. “That way the front desk staff can always watch on the monitors to see what’s going on, and if they see one of the dogs in one of the suites is getting crazy rambunctious and needs to get outside, then they can jump off the desk and run back here.”

Kolble said, “Especially because of COVID, people have been stuck at home with their dogs for you know 15 to 16 months, and now are finally ready to take a vacation, and so they don’t want to leave their dog at some place they don’t trust, so that’s really where we think we will be above and beyond what’s out there right now.”
