The Douglas County School District committee convened to analyze the need to increase school funding through a bond and mill levy override is looking for volunteers to join the efforts.

Community members who are interested in participating in the district’s Mill Bond Exploratory Committee can apply through a Google Form through Jan. 22. Members are expected to attend meetings on the first Mondays of February, March and April from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

In a statement seeking members, the committee is encouraging people with diverse viewpoints to join.

“Candidates who are not involved in school activities are encouraged to apply, as well as those who are,” the statement says. “Candidates who are uncertain whether they support funding or have opposed past funding initiatives are welcome to apply, as well as those who support them. We want a range of voices at the table.”

The Mill Bond Exploratory Committee was reinstated by the school board at its Dec. 20 meeting to make recommendations about how much money the district needs to ask for from voters to increase staff compensation, build new schools and maintain existing buildings.
