As of 1 p.m. on Aug. 16 the fire that broke out near Deer Creek Park, close to the intersection of Grizzly and Bear Claw Drives has been 100 % contained.

Jefferson County Sherriff's Office Spokesperson Mike Taplin said the fire started Aug. 15 at around 4:30 p.m. It triggered the evacuation of surrounding homes, and burned more than 28 acres.

Taplin says there haven't been any injuries or structures burned.

Taplin says witnesses heard an explosion, followed by smoke when the fire started.

“We believe it's human caused,” said Taplin, adding that the incident is still an active investigation.

Ronda Scholting, a spokesperson for West Metro Fire Rescue, says the fire department sent six engines and around 20 firefighters to the scene. They stayed at the fire until around 3 a.m. this morning.
