Fire destroys home near Parker

A house outside Parker was destroyed in a fire the night of Sept. 18, according to South Metro Fire Rescue.

Three occupants lived in the house, but none were home at the time. Two dogs died in the fire.

Firefighters responded at 6:20 p.m. to 9296 Windhaven Drive in the Timbers neighborhood of unincorporated Douglas County. They found the entire back of the house engulfed in fire, South Metro said.

The crews immediately began putting water on the fire; soon after, the house started to collapse.

Units moved to a defensive strategy, fighting the fire from outside and from above using an aerial master stream. A grass fire started north of the house and was quickly put out, South Metro said.

When nearby hydrants lost water pressure, crews tapped hydrants with larger water supplies on nearby streets.

Firefighters eventually gained control of the main body of the fire, spending the evening hours putting out hot spots and staying overnight to assure the fire didn’t reignite.

Arapahoe Rescue Patrol Inc., Elizabeth Fire Rescue, Franktown Fire Protection District and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office supported South Metro in handling the blaze.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
