Fire engulfs homes under construction in Highlands Ranch

Posted

South Metro Fire Rescue personnel sprang into action in Highlands Ranch July 6 after a cluster of homes under construction was engulfed in flames.

The homes are just off County Line Road near McLellan Reservoir, at Riverscape Court and Channel Drive.

Two construction workers at the scene were reported to be injured and in stable condition. They were transported to a nearby hospital with burns, said spokeswoman Connor Wist.

The fire, first reported at 3:41 p.m, was deternined to have been accidentally caused by the usage of flammable liquids, Wist said.

The fire engulfed four buildings, then spread to a fifth building and nearby brush.

The woodframe buildings, all of which are three stories tall, were shown to be almost completely destroyed in videos shared by the fire agnecy on social media. A fifth building was partially damaged.

In radio communications during the blaze, SMFR personnel expressed concern that one of the buildings was in danger of collapsing. Firefighters were advised to steer clear of the structure.

An adjacent dumpster with a nearby electric box was also on fire, according to radio communications.
