Fire truck parade, activities roll into Littleton for Father’s Day weekend

Free ”Fire Muster” event features lots of fun for little ones

Littleton’s Fire Muster is back this Father’s Day weekend, starting with a fire truck parade down Main Street followed by a free fun-filled gathering at Arapahoe Community College on the morning of Saturday, June 19.

The Fire Muster was postponed last year due to COVID-19, but comes roaring back this year, with a parade of vintage and active fire trucks starting at 9 a.m. at the intersection of Bannock Street and Littleton Boulevard.

The parade will be led by Littleton’s antique 1914 Federal Chemical Truck, and will be followed by numerous vintage trucks from the Mile High Hook and Ladder antique fire truck club. Accompanying them will be active-duty trucks from South Metro Fire Rescue.

The parade will roll down Main Street, then turn left on Curtice Street and head to the main parking lot at Arapahoe Community College.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the vintage and modern trucks will “muster” at ACC, along with other disaster relief vehicles and vintage apparatus.

The free event features loads of activities for little ones. Members of the Arapahoe Rescue Patrol will help youngsters participate in a bucket brigade and shoot real firehoses.

Demonstrations include a Jaws of Life auto extrication, and if all goes according to plan, the event will also feature a landing by an emergency helicopter.

Hamburgers, cold drinks and t-shirts will be for sale, courtesy of the Knights of Columbus.

Numerous booths from local safety agencies will offer materials on safety and emergency preparedness.

Lingering pandemic considerations mean no fire truck rides will be offered this year, nor will kids be able to try on firefighter “bunker gear.”

The event has been sponsored by Schomp Automotive since 1985, and is staged in partnership with South Metro Fire Rescue, which absorbed Littleton Fire Rescue at the beginning of 2019.

“I am thrilled that South Metro Fire Rescue is part of the 35th Fire Parade and Muster celebration," said South Metro Fire Chief Bob Baker. "Having a long line of family tradition in the fire service, I know how special this event is for families to see the antique fire trucks parading through historical Downtown Littleton. We always look forward to being involved in this fun and educational annual tradition in our community."
