What issue do you see shaping the city the most through the next decade and how we should respond?

Growth and infrastructure. We need to better plan our scope of growth to better sustain the community we already have.

Please describe your leadership style in three words

I like to be involved with my community and our staff. That’s why you see me at events, at social functions, and in office at City Hall. We have a phenomenal group of employees that make council’s work streamlined. Our citizens let me know when we need to intercede beyond status quo.

Describe the skills that make you the best candidate for the job

First, I’m a listener and making the best out of what’s available is something about which I feel confident. After decades of adversarial relationships with Brighton and Firestone, we’ve crafted very positive inter-governmental agreements with both that will really move Fort Lupton forward. Additionally, our relationships with developers have improved as anyone can tell by the number of buildings popping up. I favor measured growth that isn’t dependent on a single industry.

Please list your top three priorities if elected

Our infrastructure is woefully beyond optimal. That needs constant attention, including water and sewer lines and street repaving.

We cannot in good conscience keep asking citizens for more money for sewer treatment when there is a professional establishment just a few miles away. It’s a big investment to change, but it should set us up for decades to come.

We need to upgrade how we pay our police force so we can employ enough staff.

What issue do you see shaping the city the most through the next decade and how we should respond?

Our city has finally seen the growth in residential building that our surrounding communities closer to Interstate 25 have been experiencing for years. Additional residential properties as well as additional businesses bring us an increase in tax revenue that will help us provide the amenities that our citizens deserve.

Describe the skills that make you the best candidate for the job

I am an effective communicator, thought provocateur, and I am deferential toward all. While these are just a few, one skill that I feel is most important is that I am proud to be a lifelong resident of our City of Fort Lupton.

Please list your top three priorities if elected

While I realize we can’t boil the ocean and tackle all of our city’s needs/wants, we can prioritize things like our City’s infrastructure (Water treatment plant, our streets), public safety, and healthy growth. How we react to our city’s growing population will reflect on where we see Fort Lupton in 5-10 years. I hope to support growth while maintaining our small-town comforts.

What issue do you see shaping the city the most through the next decade and how we should respond?

Growth. Everyone has a different idea or opinion of how they see our city growing, however what has been done so far is bringing in housing and people, which is great, though it can have a downstream effect and negatively impact our streets, schools, businesses, and public safety. We could benefit from a heavier staffed Police Department, and school resource officers. Finally, ‘amenities’ so folks can enjoy spending their time, and money in our city.

Lead by example

Describe the skills that make you the best candidate for the job

My experience will help me make educated decisions to promote the community for the citizens. Council members should provide transparent communication to the community, something I have always done. I support the employees of the city that provide services to keep it running smoothly. I believe that local government is not a bureaucracy but an entity that needs to run as a business. We need elected officials that will lead with honesty, integrity and respect.

-Address the financial challenges facing the city with new regulations from the state forcing changes to our wastewater facility and increasing our water.

-Bring back open communication among the council members instead of selective communication perceived as a back-room board.

-Create a dialog with the local business owners and the Fort Lupton Urban Renewal Authority to both improve the business area and expand other opportunities so our citizens can shop locally.

What issue do you see shaping the city the most through the next decade and how we should respond?

-City growth: Be proactive, increasing both staffing and facilities to address growth. Fort Lupton is a first-class city. We have settled for second-best far too long.

-Debt - Use newly created revenues to pay off debt. That will relieve the citizens of the burden in their personal budget.

-Quality of life - With growth on the horizon, we must maintain our small-town environment and make Fort Lupton the place that we want to live in.

Describe the skills that make you the best candidate for the job

The past 15 years I have been in some kind of IT Support role. Inherently, this involves working with end users/customers at some of their most frustrating moments. By virtue of my work, I have an excellent ability to listen and relate to people. Furthermore, in my Cyber Security/Compliance role I understand the importance of asking questions, planning, implementing, budgeting, and maintaining.

Please list your top three priorities if elected

1. Appropriate growth, the growth is inevitable and it is important to plan for the future and sustain our small-town community

2. Community involvement, as the community grows so should our outreach and transparency. There are many grants available for local municipalities for new parks, etc.

3. Business outreach, we need to build strong partnerships with all of our businesses to truly get the backbone thriving and others interested in bringing businesses into town.

What issue do you see shaping the city the most through the next decade and how we should respond?

Planning for the future. We have already missed properly budgeting to sustain compliance for our water treatment plant, thus incurring additional fees. Our Fire Department has accommodated for our growth by adding 2 new fire stations, we need to evaluate retaining our police force and whether additional locations are needed to keep the community safe. Lastly, utilize resources such as grants and state funding, to improve the community and attract diversity in our business portfolio.

Growth in housing and business will shape the entire front range. Fort Lupton will face challenges. We must attract good development.

I’m a leader that knows how to direct people and loves to finish a project the right way. I am not happy until it is done right and in the fastest way possible. I have 20 years’ experience in business. I keep myself informed of current issues by talking with the residents and have already started to find solutions. I am a great listener and open for any sort of discussion.

Financial growth of city via more commerce and not so much in tax raising of our residents, Growth of all our departments and educational growth. All important factors that come with a fast-growing city such as ours.

What issue do you see shaping the city the most through the next decade and how we should respond?

I see the city not being prepared to accommodate our growth financially; not having the tax revenue to grow our departments to accommodate the growing population and its infrastructure. I mean to use the growing population as a selling point for businesses to come into town and collect the tax revenue form them to grow our infrastructure. This city needs more businesses. Now, our residents must travel to Brighton to eat out or buy essentials.

Besides being a lifelong resident of Fort Lupton, I know the potential that our city has and I want to help build that for current/future residents and businesses alike. I’ve had the pleasure of serving my community over the past 4 years on City Council, now more than ever experience matters.

Public infrastructure, Public Safety, and Investing in a musical/cultural city amphitheater

What issue do you see shaping the city the most through the next decade and how we should respond?

Growth, I only see the city getting larger over the next 10 years, with that we need to make sure that we are prepared on every front, making sure law enforcement has all the tools they need, and public infrastructure, water sewer and roads. These are going to be major issues down the road if they are not properly managed now.
