Fort Lupton City Council tabled three ordinances to establish new parts of the city code to deal with retail and medical marijuana during its June 15 meeting.

The three ordinances -- all up for second reading -- eventually will add new articles to the city code for regulations, licensing and taxing of the sale of retail and medical marijuana.

The next planned discussion is Tuesday, July 20.  City Attorney Andy Ausmus asked for the delay.

"We have several developments to go through regarding the ordinances," he told council. "We want to give you several options for council review. We had a good, productive meeting with the head of the marijuana enforcement division. We're trying to make sure we get this right. That's where some municipalities have fallen short."

"I'm in agreement," Mayor Zo Stieber said.

Part of that help could come from a contracat council approved with the Circuit Clerk for services to the city.  Those include reviewing the city's proposed ordinances, providing comparative information on licensing processes and creating documents to process licenses.

The fee is $80 per hour for no travel and $800 a day for travel, according to the council agenda.  The contract is not to exceed $5,000. Payment can include expenses. The city has the right to pay expenses above the $5,000 budget figure.
