BRIGHTON -- The 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office will not file charges against a man involved in a dispute at a garage sale.

The incident happened in Westminster June 5. The DA"s office said the victim believed Armando Valdez Gonzalez stole the bag with money she was using to carry cash for a yard sale. Gonzalez reportedly told the woman and her husband that the bag belonged to him.

The couple tried to prevent Gonzalez from leaving. The suspect, who was in the front seat of his truck, drove away. As he did, the woman fell to the ground and was injured, according to a press statement.

DA spokesman Chris Hopper said Gonzalez called police to tell them about the incident and that he didn't steal the bag of money. Gonzalez' wife also gave her husband's bag to police for review. Hopper said the bag is one Gonzalez uses when he visits garage sales.

"The female homeowner also reviewed the bag and confirmed it was not hers," Hopper said. "The woman’s husband later called police to inform them that they had, in fact, found their bag from the yard sale."

Hopper said Gonzalez did not commit a crime and he took "every opportunity to contact the appropriate authorities."

"There is no basis for the filing of criminal charges against Mr. Valdez Gonzalez," hopper said. "The homeowners were informed, understood, and agreed with the decision."
