A group of 13 high school seniors gathered in the middle of the cul-de-sac on Parker’s Unbridled Avenue May 21, goofing around with each other and showing their tassels and shiny new gowns, as they waited for a pinnacle moment of their young lives.
None had expected graduation would be like this. But at least the group of friends and neighbors in Canterberry Crossing in Parker were able to parade down Unbridled Avenue to applause and cheering, soaking in their moment.
Melisa Dean helped organize the makeshift graduation walk. Her and her neighbors on Unbridled Avenue held a neighborhood street prom for the seniors as well.
“How many people get to say they did that?” Dean said.
The seniors walked up and down the entire street once, getting to every parent along the street with decked out houses and lawn chairs waiting to get a photo of their graduate.
Then, they walked back down the hill.
Prop diplomas in hand, a portable speaker leading the march playing “Pomp and Circumstance,” the grads were dressed in Legend Titan blue and Penderosa Mustang crimson.
“When we picked up (my daughter’s) cap and gown a few days ago, she said, `’ know I’ve graduated, but it just doesn’t feel real,” Dean said.
“I didn’t know if they were going to get to wear cap and gowns, and they deserve that.”
