LAKEWOOD -- It was a big opening act for Holy Family High School at the state 3A track-and-field meet at Jeffco Stadium June 24.
Brody Welch broke the school record in the shot put (50 feet 4 1/2 inches) in the prelims and went on to win the state title.
Holy Family's Skylar Hawk punched a ticket into the final round of the firls 100-meter dash. Her fifth-fastest preliminary round time was 12.5 seconds. The finals are at 10:50 a.m. Saturday, June 26. She also moved into the finals in the 400-meters. She posted the second-fastest preliminary time of 58.81. Those finals are at 11:50 a.m. June 26.
Grayson Arnold made to the finals of the boys 100-meter dash. He posted a time of 11.18 in the June 24 prelims. The finals are at 10:53 a.m. June 26. He took 11th in the 200-meter dash where his tme was 23.15.

Boys
100-meter dash prelims: 9. Grayson Arnold, 11.18. Shot put: 1. Brody Welch, 50-4 1.2 (school record). 200-meter dash: 11. Arnold, 23.15.
