Holiday series will take place on virtual stage

Why are we surprised that the always creative Arvada Center has come up with a new holiday entertainment? “The Family Tree: A Virtual Holiday Comedy” deals with the situation may of us are dealing with right now: How can a family gather in this difficult holiday season??? Each performance will feature a live cast — which at times will make mistakes — per director Lynne Collins. Plays began Dec. 2 and will run at 7 p.m. through Dec. 20 on Zoom. The cast includes the Arvada Center’s regular Black Box Theatre’s cast members and the script was written by actor/playwright Jessica Austgen, who will also perform. Ticket prices are based on a pay-what-you-can model, ranging from $20 to $50. One Arvada family has family meetings to discuss how their family traditions are changing ... Cast includes Jessica Austgen, Sean Michael Cummings, Jada Susan Dixon, Tresha Farris, Kate Gleason, Geoffrey Kent, Leslie O’Carroll, Steve Wilson, Olivia Wilson and Titus the dog. Visit “The Family Tree’s” webpage at arvadacenter.org/events/the-family-tree.

Littleton Museum

Littleton’s annual “Own an Original” show is in place and ready for visitors if and when the Littleton Museum is open to visitors. (Website says the farms are open Tuesday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. by reservation.) No information on awards yet from the Littleton Fine Art Board ... The theme chosen by the board is “Liberating Humor” — a commodity we can all look forward to — if and when the building can open. The farm, however, is open during museum hours for family groups to walk among the animals and farm buildings — but advance reservations are required. 303-795-3950, during museum hours.

Virtual Arts in the Afternoon

Lone Tree Arts Center will celebrate “Happy Birthday, Beethoven” with the Ivy Street Ensemble and host Betsy Schwarm at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 16, the actual anniversary of Beethoven’s birth in 1770. The ensemble — flutist Cathy Peterson, violinist Erik Peterson and violist Philip Stevens — will present Beethoven’s Serenade, op. 25, plus music by current American composer Kenji Bunch, who was inspired by Beethoven. Tickets: choose what you pay and tune in right at 1:30 p.m. The performance will not be available later. Online or box office — lonetreeartscenter.org or 303-805-6800.

Depot Gallery news notes

Longtime Littleton Fine Arts Guild member Pat Dall is “Spotlight Artist of the Month” for the Guild, and if it were a usual month, she would have a wall in the back room at Littleton’s Depot Art Gallery for her art to be displayed. She has served in many capacities, including president as well as creating her own artwork for display. “It’s a Small World” is a display of miniature works of art displayed at Town Hall Arts Center’s Stanton Gallery. The exhibit can be viewed online: www.depotartgallery.org/its-a-small-world.
