Kaylor confirmed the length of his absence through a text message. He didn’t elaborate.
There’s been no word from the district on the reason, nor is it clear if it’s a paid leave. Kaylor contracted coronavirus late last year.
During a board workshop session Feb. 11, Re-8 board President Susan K. Browne said a matter that was to come before the board would have to wait until after Kaylor returned.

Fort Lupton High School’s student government wants to throw a dinner/Las Vegas casino night for the student body next month.
President Tiffany Garcia outlined the plans, complete with safety protocols in mind, to the Weld Re-8 board during its workshop Feb. 11.
There are three potential dates in mind. If the agreed night is Saturday, March 13, the event would be split between the school’s commons area and Floyd Acre gym.
“The pros are we could have less students attending,” Garcia said. “The downside is our costs would double.”
Another suggested set of dates was Friday and Saturday, March 19 and 20, in the commons and the high-school gym. In that instance, each group of cohorts would attend one night.
Garcia said student government reached out to Wholly Stromboli and Santiago’s to talk about providing food. There may be some in-school options available, too. Teachers would serve as waiters and waitresses. Attendance would be limited to 189 people.
The Las Vegas casino portion of the evening(s) would include blackjack and roulette tables, plus a photo booth. Re-8 board member Michelle Bettger said a local outfit agreed to provide the casino tables for both nights for the price of one.
The suggested admission price is $15 per person and $25 per couple.
“I know you want to break even,” Bettger said. “You may want to bring the price down. Prom is around the corner (April 23, and the venue the school wanted to use last year before prom was canceled won’t hold onto the deposit beyond this year). Keep the costs down so the kids don’t have to make a choice between your event and prom.”
“It would be nice to break even,” said FLHS social studies teacher and student government advisor Jason Simmers. “We could have reserve funds going into next year.”
“This will be helpful and beneficial,” said Re-8 board member Kehle Griego.
Simmers agreed.
“It’s been a tough year for our students. They’ve had a lot of disappointments with cancellations and not having prom last year,” he said. “We were hoping second semester would present more opportunities. We’re seeing more students enjoying the cohorts. We approached Mr. Roedel (Jim Roedel, FLHS’ activities director) about having a homecoming dance. But with the restrictions in place, a dance is a no-go right now.”
