A police investigation has cleared Legend High School’s athletic director of criminal wrongdoing after allegations of “inappropriate conduct” surfaced in the spring. Still, Kevin Boley, also the school’s boys basketball coach, plans to resign from his jobs at Legend late next month.

Boley was placed on leave after the allegations were reported. He has not since returned to work.

“It's been a six-month nightmare that I couldn't wake up from,” Boley said in a phone interview Sept. 17.

A Parker Police Department spokesman said the investigation was concluded June 5.

"In the end, that investigation found absolutely no evidence of any criminal conduct on my part, because there has been none," Boley said in a statement emailed to the media. "I have maintained from the beginning that these false allegations were made by individuals in the community with vindictive intent, that were upset with my decision making, continued defense and support of our head coaches in my role as athletic director.

"I recognize that we live in a society, and I work in a community in which regardless of the outcome of this investigation, irrrevocable damage has been done, which makes continuation with Legend High School untenable. As a result, I believe it is in the best interest of my family, Legend High School, and Legend basketball for me to resign from Douglas County School District effective 10/31."

A Douglas County School District spokeswoman confirmed the district received notice from Boley that he is resigning, effective Oct. 31. She would not say if the school district conducted its own investigation.

“The district will not provide any additional information regarding this personnel matter,” Paula Hans wrote in an email Sept. 17.

Boley helped build the Legend boys basketball team into a perennial presence in the state playoffs, compiling a record of 169 wins and 101 losses over the past 11 seasons. He added the role of athletic director in 2014. He has worked as a teacher, coach and administrator for the past 28 years.

“All the kids that have played for me have impacted me so much,” Boley said by phone. “I am so grateful for the opportunity to do the things we did at Legend.”
