John Anderson is the only Douglas County candidate for sheriff to stand up at the 2019 Senate hearings and speak out against Sheriff Spurlock’s red flag bill. Candidate Darren Weekly on the other hand openly supports the red flag bill. Candidate Holly Kluth opposes it now that she’s a candidate but supported it until she was terminated by Sheriff Spurlock from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO). This commitment to the Constitution by itself is enough to vote for John who believes that American sheriffs have a unique duty to wholeheartedly demonstrate their support of the Constitution. It was the red flag bill that brought John out of retirement and into this race to fight the constitutional violation it represents.

Now on record and formally admitted by the DCSO is that for the purpose of “safekeeping” Sheriff Spurlock collected and maintained the identities of gun owners via ATF Forms 4 and 5320. This is such political poison that candidates Darren and Holly have both flatly denied knowledge of the record keeping and without any explanation DCSO destroyed the gun owner records on November 23, 2021. As colleagues both Darren and Holly have built their careers from within DCSO now professing complete knowledge of all department operations. Ironically, at the same time they deny knowing anything about the collection of gun owner identities.

Cmdr. John Anderson retired with 40 years police experience in Castle Rock and has many plans for DCSO. Unlike other elected officials, sheriffs single handed have tremendous authority and John will exercise that authority to not enforce the red flag bill. He will also ensure there will never be anything that even looks like a secret gun registry.

Lastly, John will collaborate with upper command to increase and bring deputy training up to par with the unique outsider experience he brings as a police commander. And without increasing the budget John will put more boots on the ground in neighborhoods where we can get to know our deputies on a first name basis. So as conservatives let’s evaluate and vote for John based on his strong principles, his many creative ideas, and finally elect our sheriffs based on honesty.
