I was born with SVT – supraventricular tachycardia – a pre-existing condition I will carry with me for the rest of my life. The disorder afflicts a little over two people per thousand. I’ve had two surgeries, been to the emergency room four times, and had an implant – and I’m not even 30 years old.

Dealing with this illness during the COVID-19 pandemic has been especially hard. And now, in this supercharged political environment, the COVID 19 vaccine is just another political football.

Fortunately, though, when we finally have FDA-approved therapeutics and possibly even a vaccine, it’s the hard-working, unsung heroes making up our 24-hour pharmaceutical supply
chain who will get the drugs from the manufacturers into our medicine cabinets — health care distributors.

I have always had confidence that the medications I need to keep me alive are available and
accessible from my doctors and pharmacist. Without the backing of health care distributors, a future COVID vaccine would not get to the people who need it most.

I’m both thankful and endlessly impressed by the ways that hospitals and distributors have
stepped up to the plate to ensure that patients get the care they deserve, especially during this critical time. I know we can count on them well into the future to continue this great work, which is always essential.
