Lone Tree stays with Tri-County mask order

City is only place in Douglas County not to opt out

All but one place in Douglas County has acted to exempt itself from the 90-day mask order issued by the Tri-County Health Department.

The City of Lone Tree is the only municipality in Douglas County to not exercise its ability to opt out of the regional health agency's controversial mask mandate, which took effect July 24.

Cities within Douglas County, and the county's unincorporated areas, had the option to exempt themselves from the order. Notice was due to Tri-County by July 23.

The Tri-County Health mask order requires residents of Douglas, Arapahoe and Adams counties that have not exempted themselves to wear a mask in both indoor and outdoor public places for at least 90 days.

A statewide mask order, which remains in effect in Douglas County and elsewhere, requires people to wear a mask in indoor public places for at least 30 days.

Lone Tree city officials did not discuss the matter publicly in its most recent virtual city council meeting.

The city issued its own temporary mask mandate in May 8 for all indoor retail businesses. That mandate expired at the end of May. City staff and council have stated their goal is to keep as many businesses open as possible and not revert to shutdowns.

The city's largest attraction, the Park Meadows mall, had a separate mask policy prior to the statewide mandate. Mall officials stated compliance hovered around 80% prior to the mandate.
