According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, as of 2:45 p.m. Sept. 22, the Bald Mountain Fire is contained.

U.S. 6 through Clear Creek Canyon Park reopened at 1:45 p.m. Sept. 21.

The Bald Mountain Fire burn area is located near Lookout Mountain. It broke out in the afternoon on Sept. 20. According to Twitter posts, firefighters began arriving on-scene at about 3 or 3:30 p.m., and the fire was about an acre in size. By about 6 p.m., it had spread to about 15 acres.

By about 8:30 p.m. Sept. 20, the fire had grown to about 25 acres. Air operations finished for the day at about that time, but about 50-60 firefighters remained on scene through the night.

About 140 firefighters from multiple fire agencies were on-scene on Sept. 21, targeting hot spots with a 10% containment. By about 1:15 p.m. the fire had been reduced to about 17 acres in size.

No evacuations were implemented, but pre-evacuation notices were sent out.
