National Geographic Live event eyes social animals

Biologist-turned-photographer Ronan Donovan will appear Oct. 18 at Lone Tree Arts Center in the 2019-2020 National Geographic Live series. “Social By Nature” features floor-to-ceiling images supporting the concept that we are, by nature, social mammals — along with wolves, gorillas, chimpanzees and other mammals. Many are under threat. Among other adventures, Donovan lived inside Yellowstone National Park for a year, documenting the life of wild wolves. Naturally Colorado

A photographic celebration of landscape and wildlife in Colorado runs through Oct. 26 at Curtis Center for the Arts, 2349 E. Orchard Road, Littleton, with works by Lauren Lang, Jeff Goudy, Larry Pennington, Kathleen O’Dell Snead, Bridget Calip, Don Gardner and Linda Ghent. We are told that live raptors will visit the gallery from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 12! Proceeds from sales will benefit Nature’s Educators. Open Monday to Saturday. Admission free. 303-797-1779.

Monet’s look at nature ...

“Claude Monet: The Truth of Nature” opens Oct. 21 at the Denver Art Museum, the only U.S. venue for this collection. Tickets are on sale now for this much-anticipated major exhibit that will feature more than 120 paintings spanning the French artist’s entire career. Latin rhythms

The Parker Symphony will perform its first concert of the season: “Music of the Americas: North and South” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18 at the PACE Center, 20000 E. Pikes Peak Ave., Parker. Performance at 7:30 p.m. Tickets: 303-805-6800, parkerarts.org. This orchestra began in 1994 as South Suburban Community Orchestra and moved to Parker in 2011 for a new musical home. Conductor is Rene Knetsch.

Genealogists gather

The Columbine Genealogical and Historical Society will meet at Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, 6400 S. University, Centennial, from 1 to 3 p.m. on Oct. 8 for a program by John Putnam called “What’s Your Story?” Save stories as well as factoids as you gather family information. On Oct. 15, Stan Moore will present “Seesaw: How November ‘42 Shaped the Future.” World War II personalities and events that affected everyone. New members and guests are welcome. Free.

Colorado Ballet

Travel with Don Quixote and his faithful Sancho Panza as they search for a noble adventure. “Don Quixote” is the first seasonal production of the Colorado Ballet Oct. 4 (7:30 p.m.); Oct. 5 (2 and 7:30 p.m.); Oct. 6 (2 p.m.); Oct. 10, 11 (7:30 p.m.); Oct. 12 (2 and 7:30 p.m.); Oct. 13 (2 p.m.). Toy time

Reminder: “The Way We Played” is open through Jan. 3 at the Littleton Museum, 6038 S. Gallup St. Littleton. Favorite toys of well-known Littleton residents mingle with the museum’s collection. “Oh yeah! I remember that!” The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays. 303-795-3950. Admission is free.

Moonlight hike

Roxborough State Park, 4741 E. Roxborough Drive, in south Jefferson County, will hold a final Moonlight Hike for the season at 6 p.m. on Oct. 13. (Not recommended for children under 8.)
