In working with two high school interns from Castle View High School this year, Colorado Community Media created a semester-long project where our staff and the students worked to break down how expectations today to succeed impact students mentally and physically.
Bella Turhark and Madeline Robinson spoke directly to students in the Douglas County School District about their daily lives, and the impacts they feel from the need to succeed. They also talked to other generations, giving a glimpse of how expectations have evolved from the World War II era through today’s Generation Z students.
In guiding the project, South Metro Editor Thelma Grimes received help from Children’s Hospital Colorado, HealthOne, Arapahoe Community College and local medicla professionals who talked about the parental impact and the impact to society.
Finally, we also looked at how the cost of getting an education is impacting students’ stress, anxiety and choices today.
