A new local store offering hardware and other home improvement items hosted its grand opening in Parker on Oct. 16.
Big Tool Box, which is locally owned and is also part of the national Ace Hardware Co-op, has four major sections including hardware, a garden center, a lawn and sprinkler section and a rental and repair shop.
“Big Tool Box is really four businesses in one,” said Marley Hodgson, one of the owners of the company.
The store, located at 19850 Cockriel Drive, is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
The store also has one other location in Centennial. The original store opened 40 years ago and was created to respond to expanding growth in the southern Denver metro area, Hodgson said. Now, the owners have expanded to Parker.
“We'd always had our eye on that area, we'd watched some similar growth start to happen in that area as in the original Big Tool Box in Centennial,” Hodgson said.
The store focuses on providing high-quality customer service and keeping a unique array of products consistently in stock, he said.
“We have the small company, locally-owned aspect but we have the backing of a national company that helps us procure products and help us provide services,” Hodgson said about the company's co-op and local ownership model.
The store has 32,000 square feet of indoor retail space, 12,000 of which is a greenhouse, according to a press release from the company. It also has more than 90,000 square feet of an outdoor garden center and retail space, according to the release.
The store also has a grill section and a U-Haul dealer, according to the release.
Parker Mayor Jeff Toborg said he's excited about the company coming to Parker.
“This is the largest commercial retail store that has opened in Parker in 2021,” Toborg said. “We appreciate them investing in the Town of Parker.”
