An officer-involved shooting left one man dead near Fort Lupton April 17.

It happened in the Aristocrat Ranchettes subdivision, which is northeast of town, around 8:45 a.m. The Weld County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 60-year-old Smoky Lynn Crockett, who lives in the area of the shooting. He died at the scene.

Weld County Sheriff's Office spokesman Joe Moylan said deputies responded to a report of a disturbance with weapons inside a residence. A female caller told authorities an armed man was preventing her from leaving the home and threatening to kill her. When deputies arrived, they found the man outside the home and told him to drop his weapon.

"After several minutes of interacting with the suspect, an officer-involved
shooting occurred," Moylan said. "The suspect, a 60-year-old white man, was pronounced dead at the scene." His name wasn't released. Moylan added there is no additional threat to the area.

The 19th Judicial District Critical Incident Team is handling the investigation. Those with information should call detective John Kinne with the Greeley Police Department at 970-350-9603.
