One down, one to go.

The inaugural Memorial Day Music Festival in Evergreen was a success despite chilly, rainy weather, and now it's time to focus on the more established July 4 Music Festival. Evergreen Music Festival President Cheri Rubin hopes the weather gods will smile on Evergreen on July 4 to give attendees the traditional fun experience with beautiful weather.

Nearly two-thirds of ticketholders came to the Buchanan Fields on Memorial Day for the two shows, separate because of earlier concerns about the pandemic. Some people bought tickets the day of the event, Rubin said.

“It attests to the hardiness of Evergreeners and music lovers,” she said.

The morning show had the Denver Brass, Spinphony and the Montbello Drum Line performing, while afternoon attendees were treated to Franny & the Jetts, Paa Kow and the drum line. Singer Hazel Miller was the mistress of ceremonies for both shows.

Attendees sat under tents, wearing warm clothes with some covered in blankets. But a little cold didn't stop them from enjoying the music and being with friends.

Looking forward to July 4, that music festival will be an all-day affair at the Buchanan Fields. The day begins with Jazzical Violin and Ovation West/Altezza, followed by Joe Smith and the Spicy Pickles, FACE, the Thomas Cassell Voyager Project, and Joe Bye and Friends before the headliner performs. The headliner has not been announced yet. Dancers are provided by Colorado Ballet.

In addition, the Rotary classic car show, children's activities, food trucks and beverages will be available.

Proceeds from the festivals go to the Evergreen High School performing arts program.

Tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for veterans and active military, $10 for teens 13-18 and $5 for children 12 and under. Tickets are available at evergreenmusicfestival.org.
