Castle Rock police are investigating reports of gunfire near the town's outlet mall. No suspects have been identified and no one is in custody, a police spokesman said.

The incident took place at approximately 11:37 a.m. near the 1300 block of New Beal Street, not far from the Outlets at Castle Rock and Lowe's. The police department received several calls from people who said occupants of two vehicles were “involved in an altercation and shots were fired,” according to a release from the police department.

Investigators are not aware of any injuries or damage to nearby property, spokesman Seth Morrissey said. Morrissey said investigators do not know how many suspects are involved or what type of firearms were used in the shooting. He could not provide a description of the vehicles.

Officers were still in the area around 1:30 p.m. collecting evidence and investigating the scene.

“Unfortunately, we don't know who the suspects are or what the motive is,” Morrissey said. “We don't know what we're looking for at this point.”
